Humpback whale (Megaptera Novaeangliae)
Humpback whales are among the most recognizable of the large species, known for their enormous size, striking black and white colors and acrobatic behavior. These gentle giants can grow up to 16 meters long and weigh as much as 40 tonnes. They are known for their long pectoral fins and unique tail patterns, which make them easy to identify individually.

Humpback whales are also known for their complex and melodic songs, which can travel great distances through the sea. These songs are thought to play a role in communication and possibly mating. When feeding in the Arctic waters around Alta, humpbacks use a technique called bubble net feeding, working together to catch schools of fish such as herring. Watching these huge animals break the water or slap their tails against the surface is an amazing sight.

Killer whales (Orcinus Orca)
Orcas, also infamous and known as Killer Whales, are among the ocean's top predators and one of the most intelligent marine species. These striking black and white creatures can reach lengths of up to 8 meters and weigh over 6 tonnes. Known for their incredible hunting techniques, killer whales work in highly coordinated groups.
Killer whales are social animals, and their family-oriented groups are structured around complex communication, often with unique vocalizations. Despite their ferocious reputation, killer whales are fascinating to observe in the wild, especially when they glide gracefully through the water, displaying their iconic dorsal fins and occasional playful behavior such as breaching or tail slapping.
